# Getting a signature before you leave the site

> Signing on the phone, what an unsigned ticket is worth, and how to attach photo evidence with it.

<Warning>
  **An unsigned ticket is an assertion.** A signed ticket is an agreement. Signed the same day, on site, by the person who directed the work — that's the whole game.

## Get it signed

<Steps>
  <Step title="Finish the ticket on the spot">
    Labor, material, description, photos. Don't hand somebody a half-filled ticket to sign.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Hand them your phone">
    They sign with a finger, on the ticket, in DirtView.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the photos are attached">
    Before-condition photos with the ticket, not in your camera roll.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit it">
    Now the office has it, today.
  </Step>

## If they won't sign

It happens. Don't let it stop the record:

* Submit the ticket anyway, unsigned.
* Note **who** you asked and **when**, in the description.
* Tell your PM the same day.

An unsigned ticket with a contemporaneous note about who declined to sign is far better than no ticket.
