# The six-step ticket, start to finish

> Project info, labor, material, other costs, attachments, approval — what each step needs and what you can leave blank.

<Note>
  **The short version.** Six steps, in order. Fill it out on site, the day the work happens, and get it signed before you leave.

## The six steps

    Which job, what date, and what the extra work was. Write what happened in plain words — "removed 40 LF of unmarked conduit at the north footing," not "extra work per direction."

  <Step title="Labor">
    Who, what trade, how many hours. Names, not just a headcount.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Material">
    What you used and how much. Quantities with units.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Other costs">
    Equipment, rentals, disposal, delivery. This is the step people skip, and it's real money.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Attachments">
    Photos of the condition **before** you fixed it, plus delivery tickets. Photos taken after the fact prove nothing.

## What you can leave blank

Material and other costs genuinely don't apply to some tickets. Labor, the description and the signature always do.

<Warning>
  **Same day or it's worth less.** A ticket written Friday for Tuesday's work, with no photos and no signature, is a story. The same ticket written Tuesday with a signature is a claim.
